Connect Gemini CLI
Gemini Direct uses Gemini CLI on your computer. It is not configured from the Gemini web app.
Command for step 2
gemini mcp add --transport http trove https://customer.usetrove.app/mcp
Connect Trove from your terminal
1
Install and launch Gemini CLI
Install Gemini CLI from Google’s official instructions, open your terminal, and start Gemini CLI.
2
Add Trove’s Streamable HTTP server
Run the command shown below in your terminal. It saves Trove to your Gemini CLI MCP configuration.
3
Complete Trove authorization
When Gemini CLI detects that Trove needs authorization, it opens your local browser. Sign in to Trove and approve the connection.
4
Verify the connection
Run /mcp in Gemini CLI. Trove should appear as connected and list its available tools. Gemini CLI answers in text rather than with the cards you see in ChatGPT or Claude. Confirming a move that would make a collection more visible needs a host that shows cards, or the Trove web app.
5
Ask Gemini to use Trove
Start a Gemini CLI conversation and ask a Trove question, such as “Show my Catch Up reading queue.”
What to try next
Ask Gemini CLI what you have saved, or browse the AI tools Trove adds. For repeatable workflows, add a file from the Skills library.
