Direct MCP connection
Trove works with any MCP client that supports remote HTTP servers (Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in). Add the config below, sign in with your Trove account in the browser, and you’re connected. There’s no API key to copy.
Trove MCP endpoint
https://customer.usetrove.app/mcp
Copy the config
Paste this into your client’s MCP settings. Most clients use this shape.
Config for most clients (JSON)
{ "mcpServers": { "trove": { "url": "https://customer.usetrove.app/mcp" } } }
Some clients can only run local programs and can’t connect to a web address directly. Use this version instead. It uses a small helper called mcp-remote and needs Node 18 or newer installed on your computer.
Fallback for clients that only support stdio (needs Node 18+)
{ "mcpServers": { "trove": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "mcp-remote", "https://customer.usetrove.app/mcp" ] } } }
Connect in five steps
1
Add the config
Paste the config above into your client’s MCP settings, or follow the setup notes for your client below. Name the server trove.
2
Restart or reload your client
Save your changes, then restart or reload your client so it picks up the new server.
3
Sign in to Trove and approve access
A browser window opens with the Trove sign-in page. Sign in, check the account shown is yours, and approve.
4
Check that Trove’s tools appear
Look for Trove in your client’s list of MCP servers or tools. Then ask “List my Trove collections” to see it work. Text-only clients show results as text instead of cards.
5
Something not working?
See Troubleshooting at the bottom of this page for the most common fixes.
Set up in your client
Not sure where the settings live? Find your app below. Each one uses the config above.
Cursor
Open Cursor’s settings and look for the MCP section to add a server, or edit the file ~/.cursor/mcp.json yourself. Paste the first config above, the one with url.
VS Code
VS Code uses a slightly different shape. Create a file called .vscode/mcp.json in your project, paste the config below, then reload VS Code. You can also search “MCP” in the Command Palette to add a server from there.
VS Code config (JSON)
{ "servers": { "trove": { "type": "http", "url": "https://customer.usetrove.app/mcp" } } }
JetBrains IDEs
Open your IDE’s settings, find AI Assistant, and look for its MCP section. Add a new server, choose the HTTP option if asked, and paste the first config above. If it can’t connect, use the Node fallback config instead.
Claude Code
Run this command in your terminal. Then start Claude Code, type /mcp, choose Trove, and follow the sign-in.
Terminal command
claude mcp add --transport http trove https://customer.usetrove.app/mcp
Windsurf
Open Windsurf’s MCP settings, or its MCP config file, and add Trove. Windsurf uses serverUrl instead of url.
Windsurf config (JSON)
{ "mcpServers": { "trove": { "serverUrl": "https://customer.usetrove.app/mcp" } } }
Troubleshooting
Authorization failed or timed out. Sign in to Trove in the same browser first, then start the connection again.
Connected, but tools don’t respond. Start a new conversation and turn Trove on for it, then ask “What tools does Trove have?”.
Disconnected later. Sessions can expire. Reconnect from your client’s settings; your saves are never affected.
